Having recently changed their school mascot to \"Wolves\" (\"Nashoba\" being Choctaw for \"wolf\") \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethey asked me to write a piece that would commemorate the new school identity, and suggested a tone poem that would depict \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewolves in a dark and mysterious way at the opening of the piece, picking up the pace of the music as the wolves begin moving \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003euntil finally reaching a fever-pitch with the wolves running and hunting, leading to a frenzied ending.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAlthough I do not have much personal experience with wolves, I thought the idea was intriguing and brought to mind many \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003evisions that I found rich in content when translating those thoughts to music notation. The tone poem is written in four connected \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003esections: 1) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cem\u003eWolves at Dusk\u003c\/em\u003e, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewhich sets the scene in dark and mysterious tones (hence the style marking \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eMisteriosamente\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e), although \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethere is something about wolves I find quite noble, so there are moments that highlight that sentiment as well. 2) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe Pack on the\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cem\u003eMove\u003c\/em\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eis meant to feel menacing (\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eMinaccioso\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e) but also maintains a hint of the nobility from the previous movement. 3) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eWolves in Moonlight\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cem\u003e \u003c\/em\u003eallowed me to expand the emotional palette by imagining the relationships of the wolves to others in the pack. While \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethere is certainly a gentler element to this movement, it is also filled with apprehension, sadness and joy. 4) \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe Hunt\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e is the final \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emovement and is a rapidly rhythmical scene of ruthlessness (\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003eSpietatmente\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e) meant to depict a brutal scene as the music includes \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003egrowling trumpets, violent horn rips and trombone smears, and a whip crack that represents the snap of the wolves' bite. Additionally, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eit is easy to imagine the breathtaking speed and coordination of the wolves as they run wildly through the night to capture their prey, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eenhanced by the multiple meters and extreme dynamics.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe \"Wolf Moon\" is the traditional name for the first full moon of the year, which always occurs in January. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt's thought to be named this because wolves were more likely to be heard howling at this time.  I thought it was the perfect title for this dramatic tone poem!\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: center;\"\u003e\u003ciframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y1jcb9iUnWY?si=urhkFS-pk2cRClbh\" title=\"YouTube video player\"\u003e\u003c\/iframe\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Alfred","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45891399385141,"sku":"301792","price":162.0,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0638\/7187\/7173\/files\/1_b1791526-c092-419a-9ceb-01a07199f8c6.webp?v=1786655721","url":"https:\/\/www.twiggmusique.com\/products\/wolf-moon-par-robert-sheldon","provider":"Twigg Musique","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
