Bruce Tippette brings us a wonderful new work for the young band in “Sparks.” A great way to open or close a concert program, this work begins boldly with interesting harmonies and orchestral hits – and includes more lyrical moments! They will show up wanting to play this one every day.

I was approached in the Fall of 2022 to create a multi-level work for the Washington Irving Intermediate Band and the Sleepy Hollow Middle School and High School Bands in New York. Rather than compose one piece with three different difficulties that could be played simultaneously, I created three separate pieces that, once combined, create one “super” piece.
“Sparks” is the composition for the younger middle school band. When all three pieces are performed together, the title becomes “Sparks Burn Brightly Among the Skies.”
